Hope you have been enjoying (and learning something new!) from my craft essays, prompts, example stories and submission tips. As some of you who have been with me from the very beginning know, I really find this exercise in essay-writing naturally fulfilling and see it as a means of contributing to the flash fiction writing community. If you are like me, who could never afford any workshops because of the costs involved (& particularly because of the massive conversion rates involved), I believe my craft essays serve as good as (and maybe more!) some of the workshops that charge in the range of USD 25-100. As a workshop instructor myself, leading many such workshops over the years independently and with other organizations and continuing to do so,
I know this for a fact that some of the writers who might have benefitted most from these guided workshops and mentorships are actually missing from these workshop classes simply because of affordability.
That’s where my craft essays come in, offering an all-round experience in DIY format. If you’re reading me for the first time, I hope you check out the scores of available craft essays on the site HERE, starting from the first in October 2021. Initially published as fortnightly posts, they transitioned to one-a-month (on month end) for the last few months.
The next craft essay is due on June 30, Sunday, with the pre-announced topic of “Social Issues in Flash Fiction”. In a world so complicated, how can we keep writing about the domestic, about the mundane, and about the pedestrian? Why not raise issues that concerns us as citizens and as humans, and try to build a compelling narrative around it? That’s what the next blogpost will be about, including the usuals: example stories, tips and prompts.
Glad to let you know that my craft essays will be on my Patreon from now onwards, instead of the website. Would you not subscribe me there? It’s a nominal fee on the platform, and will help me streamline the entire process. Do continue to keep subscribed to my author website as well which will remain forever free. IF you are not a subscriber, do so NOW.
Going forward, the website blog will proudly host interviews (similar to the interview series with five poets recently, Poetry Talk, for Poetry Month), talk about selected aspects in magazines/contests like this blogpost, share reading lists like this, offer space to guest bloggers like this and share more blogs/videos like this relating to topics such as Writers’ Block And How To Overcome It, Picking Up The Pieces And Writing After A Personal Loss, How To Turn Grief Into Words, and so on. However, they’ll be slightly erratically scheduled.
Additionally, you may also like to subscribe to the super exclusive material (super exciting too!) that I am offering on Patreon for higher-tier patrons. Do check them out.
Have a great weekend ahead,
Warmly,
Mandira
